This tip describes how you can create sleek and professional looking HTML signatures for your outgoing Gmail messages right inside Gmail itself without requiring any extensions or add-ons.

HTML Signatures for your Google Email

Gmail does support email signatures but the problem is that it limits you to plain text – you can’t add graphics (like your company’s logo) to the signature and there’s absolutely no support for HTML so you can’t use different font styles or colors for the signature text.

There are workarounds. For instance, you can create an email signature in Outlook or some HTML editor and then copy-paste the whole thing to your Gmail message. Or you can get one of these browser add-ons to create rich HTML signatures directly on the Gmail /Google Apps website.

There’s a third-option as well – it’s easy, it’s fun and doesn’t require extensions. Best of all, you can create multiple signatures for the same Gmail account and use them depending on who you are corresponding with.

Gmail Signatures Step-by-Step

Step 1: Go to Gmail Settings –> Labs and enable “Canned Responses” as well as “Inserting Images.”

Step 2: Compose a new message in Gmail and create a signature just like you would compose any other email message. Be creative!

You can either upload logos and icons* from the computer or use images that are already on the web. I suggest the former style as that will permanently embed the image into your email signature.

[*] You can find images of icons through Google Image Search. Go to Advanced options under image search and type 12 for height and width (use 16px if you are looking to add slightly bigger icons). While optional, you may also select the filetype as PNG or GIF for transparent backgrounds -- see example.

Step 3: Once your happy with the formatting and layout of your new “HTML signature,” go to the Canned Response menu and Save – give some logical name like “Personal” for a signature that you want to attach to your personal emails.

Now whenever you are composing a new message in Gmail or replying to an existing message, just select the relevant signature from the Canned Responses drop-down and it will be inserted inline as in this screenshot.

The Hotlist è una piattaforma piuttosto completa per la gestione del proprio calendario attraverso i social network: sincronizzato al 100% con gli eventi presenti su Facebook – l’iscrizione prevede infatti l’uso esclusivo di Facebook Connect – genera automaticamente un “flusso” di tweet dai partecipanti alla data manifestazione, indica la percentuale di uomini e donne presenti e integra Google Maps per la posizione.

Queste sono le feature principali di The Hotlist, che prevede anche funzioni per controllare ciò che avviene in città (gli eventi aggregati, stando a quanto sostiene il CEO della startup nelle FAQ, non derivano soltanto da Facebook) attualmente limitati a Roma per quanto l’Italia. Non c’è ancora un’applicazione per accedere alla piattaforma da dispositivi mobili, ma il software per iPhone è già in fase di avanzato sviluppo e sarà presentato quanto prima.

È un peccato che parte delle caratteristiche di The Hotlist – fondato a New York da due italo-americani – non siano estese a tutti i capoluoghi della Penisola: il social aggregator sfrutta Google, Yelp e Google come complemento a Facebook per la generazione dei consigli, ma nel nostro Paese è utile soprattutto per monitorare le attività proprie e degli amici.

Docs.com (che in realtà si chiama semplicemente Docs, ma il dominio è utile per distinguerlo dalla piattaforma di Google) è stato presentato ufficialmente alla conferenza f8 di Facebook già da tre settimane, ma i primi inviti sono stati distribuiti soltanto alla fine di settimana scorsa. Come anticipavo parlando di Microsoft Office Live Workspace costituisce la 2ª “mossa” di Redmond contro il monopolio di fatto che Mountain View ha ottenuto sulla gestione dei documenti online. E, sorprendentemente, funziona con tutti i sistemi operativi.

Tanto per dirne una, gli screenshot d’esempio di Docs.com sono stati presi da Firefox con Linux a 64-bit: insieme a Office Live Workspace è l’unico modo per creare, modificare e salvare documenti di Microsoft nell’ultima versione disponibile con uno strumento ufficiale. Una “rivoluzione” che non ha precedenti per questo tipo di applicazioni e che sbarcando nel settore mobile avrà orizzonti pressoché illimitati. Per usufruirne è necessario registrarsi tramite Facebook e fornire la propria e-mail in attesa della disponibilità di nuovi inviti.

Come Office Live Workspace consente di aprire i documenti in locale tramite Microsoft Office (dalla versione 2003 all’ultima disponibile), ma a differenza di questo permette la piena integrazione con Facebook – da cui eredita le innumerevoli opzioni legate alla privacy – dando la possibilità di condividere e modificare i documenti in crowdsourcing coi propri contatti personali e professionali. Una piattaforma che non è ancora stata localizzata, ma che parte dal bacino d’utenza più esteso tra i social media e farà parlare spesso di sé.

This tutorial will guide you through the steps to enable your Android device to log all of the calls made to and from it to your Google Calendar.

1. Start out by using the QR code below to launch the Android Market and take you to the download location for CallTrack. If you need help using QR codes, see this tutorial. Alternatley, you can just open the Market app on your phone and search for CallTrack.







2. Install it as you would any other app.







3. Once installed, launch it from your list of installed apps.







4. The CallTrack Preferences screen will open. Make sure that Enable CallTrack is checked. Now tap the Calendar entry in the Preferences.







5. Select the Google Calendar you want to sync your phone calls with.







6. Make sure that the correct calendar is listed in the Log calls to calendar: area.
   
   
   

   If you would like to sync all of the calls currently stored on your phone (previous calls to and from your phone) as well as your calls going forward, click the Menu button. Then tap the Sync Entire Call Log button.








7. Give CallTrack a minute or two for it to upload your call log (previous calls) to your Google Calendar.







8. Now open your Google Calendar. All of the calls you’ve made and received will be created as events on exactly the time and date they were sent/received.







9. If you view the full details of an event, the name of the person you called will be listed, their phone number, and the duration of the call.







10. One of the great features is that after a call is synced to your Google Calendar, you can use that event to create upcoming reminders to call the person back etc.
